Vitula edmandsii

(Packard, [1865])

Wingspan c. 20-25mm.

This North American species has been found in a number of North European countries including Norway, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, and the first record for Britain was in August 1997 when a specimen came to light at Spurn, East Yorkshire.

It has a distinctive blue-grey ground colour, with a slight rosy suffusion with blackish markings.

The larvae feed on wax inside bumble bee nests, and it is also stated that in N. America they feed on dried fruit.
