Phyllonorycter joannisi

(Le Marchand, 1936)

[Synonyms: Phyllonorycter platanoidella]

Wingspan 7-8 mm.

In common with other Acer-feeding Phyllonorycters, this species is mostly white with yellowish or brownish markings edged black.

The foodplant is Norway maple (Acer platanoides), the larval mine being a fairly large roundish blotch on the underside of the leaf.

The species is commonest in south-east England, but is expanding northwards and has recently been found as far north as Yorkshire.

May and August are the flight periods for the two generations of adults.
