Exaeretia allisella

Stainton, 1849

Wingspan c. 22mm.

A relatively local species, occurring mainly in central and northern England and Wales, to southern Scotland, and on certain Scottish Islands.

The adult moths, which are fairly distinctive in appearance, are on the wing during July and August and occupy open grassland habitats.

The foodplant is mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), the larvae feeding at first in the rootstock, then subsequently in the young stems.
