Eucosma obumbratana

(Lienig & Zeller, 1846)

Wingspan 14-20 mm.

A relatively uncommon species, though widely distributed in England and Wales.

The moths fly in July and August and are found in farmland and along the edges of meadows. Their normal flight time is from dusk onwards, and they are attracted to light.

The larvae feed in the autumn on the seedheads of perennial sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis), before overwintering in a cocoon.
