Ectoedemia atrifrontella
(Stainton, 1851)
Wingspan 7-9 mm.
A local species occurring in south-east and southern England, though it is easily overlooked.
Unlike many of its relatives, the larvae mine the bark, rather than the leaves, of oak (Quercus), preferring younger branches.
The moths are greyish-brown with darker-tipped scales, giving a speckled appearance when viewed closely. The flight period is between June and September.
