Broad-bordered White Underwing Anarta melanopa

Wingspan c.25mm.
This montane species is found in high altitude (usually above 600m) throughout much of Scotland, though it is most frequent in the central Highlands. A single record exists from Northumberland.
The adults fly during the day, especially in sunshine, during May and June and visits various flowers to take nectar.
The larva feeds on a number of montane plants, such as crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) and bearberry (Arctylostaphylos uva-ursi).
