Agdistis bennetii

(Curtis, 1833)

Wingspan 24-30 mm.

This local species, which occurs in salt-marshes in the south and east of England, has a very distinctive resting posture, with its narrow wings held forward, and the front part of the body raised on the long forelegs.

The larvae feed on sea-lavender (Limonium), and the adults fly in July and August, when they can be attracted by light.

Unlike the other members of the Pterophoridae, the Agdistinae have forewings which are not cleft or separated into 'plumes'
