This is a really superb site that I stumbled on via the Kent Butterfly site. I am a real novice and am concentrating on macros. It is really useful to have a photographic resource plus background information so readily to hand. I am mothing using a 100W UV in Boreham, near Chelmsford, Essex, UK

Very interesting. I am trying to find out about a moth which was on my jacket after I had been working near ivy last year. I say 'moth' but I'm afraid my knowledge is sadly lacking about so many of the wonderful creatures which surround us.

I would like to first congratulate you on creating a fabulous web site. I am the biology technician at Wigan & Leigh College in Lancashire currently studying part-time for a single honours degree at Bolton Institute of Higher Education. I am approaching the final year of my studies and am interested in carrying out my dissertation on moths. However, I am a little stuck on what kind of research to carry out, do you have any ideas or ongoing research I can conrtibute to from the Wigan/Bolton area?

I like what I've seen so far although my primary interest is butterflies rather than moths. I don't run a moth trap currently although I intend to start again soon. Great pictures !!

Really enjoyable site! Well done!

Please will you add a notice warning people not to rely on the site for identifications, however, because you still have many missing. The person who identified A. arenella may be right but there are other similar species not yet included. I am not trying to be a wet blanket but merely trying to be cautious and helpful.

Very interesring and usfull, especially as most of the species covered can also be found here in Spain. It's also usefull, for descriptive work when showing my Spanish collegues, variations, and species that they are not awhare of.

This is a great site for expert but for me it failed in a search for Swallowtail. As a non expert I wanted some means of finding individual moths or groups by common names, where these exist. I photograph various insects including Dragonflies, Butterflies and Moths but very weak on latin names of Moths! Too many to remember!
