What a fantastic website! I'm just an interested amateur with an obviously attractive porchlight who has had a lot of moths over the years that I haven't been able to find in my admittedly limited literature. Identification is now easy thanks to you

Enabled ID of Privet Hawk Moths. Very good.

This is easily the best designed and most informative moth site on the net. Some areas would benefit from updates (observation rather than criticism) so I hope the site owners continue to maintain it and that its future is secure. I also hope that illness is not the reason for lack of recent updates!!

although i find your web-site useful, the Moth that i have found is not in your listings. The moth in question has a white body, pincer head similer to an ear-wig. What is it?.

We live in North Devon and found a huge moth resting in our outdoor sink all day today. We had no idea what it was and couldn't find it in any of our books, but there it was, right at the top of your list - a Poplar Hawk Moth. Thank you for your help in identifying it - how easy was that!
Best wishes

As a moth beginner, I find the site wonderfully accessible and sensibly written, with the name search facility a particular help. At the same time, it's obviously produced by experts, so that the information is precise and accurate. Thanks!

Excellent site - am encouraging new mothers to look at it. It would be really, really useful for them (and me) if you have more than one example of the species - eg the Scottish variations. One eg is Ingrailed Clay - our specimens can be very different to your photograph.

A brilliant website. My interest in moths is in the early stages and I find the website an invaluable identification reference.

Congratulations on a great site. Even though I live in southern Brittany, I find it immensely helpful as a beginner moth-trapper - especially for identification before I put my photos up on our own website about wild live in south Brittany, thanks. I have recommended the site to others. Keep up the good work.

Dear Ian,

I accept that you are still working on this but as it took me about a minute to identify a moth I photographed today and had never seen before, I reckon you are doing quite well (and it wasn't in the Beginner's Top 20!!). So well done and many thanks. I shall bookmark this site. By the way it was a Scarlet Tiger - I have a lovely photo of it on a wall if you want it.

Best wishes

Thank you for a great Site!
I have just identified a moth as Angle Shades (Phiogophera meticulosa) thanks to your information. I have always hd a great interest in Nature, without having the time or knowledge to identify the various species around me here in a small Lincolnshire village, near Louth. A site such as yours is an invaluable resource, especially when it is so well organised. I only wish that my camera batteries had not chosen today, to lose charge!
Thank you so much. I have printed-off the Page.
Regards
